The Eastwood: Update

Over the last few months we’ve been working hard to get The Eastwood up and running. Purchased on January 2nd 2014, it is official open to the public, and we had an amazing opening weekend. Renovating the entire space with lack of sleep, lack of food, and lack of patience was tough over 2 months, but it could not have turned out any more beautiful. From paint, curtains, floors, floors again…and again, to more paint, shelving, menu work, menu rework, menu re-re-rework, and countless tears, laughter, and nearly reaching the point of a nervous breakdown, we got it done just … Continue reading The Eastwood: Update

Getting better design feedback:

As a designer, i’ve grown to have a love hate relationship with design feedback. I love it because it helps me continue to grow, to change, and see my work in different lights that i may not have seen previously while i was stuck in my work bubble. Its great to have friends that are also in the design world because they, while being nice, tell me what sucks and what is awesome. I know that when i asked a few of my girl design friends they’re going to tell me “ummm what if you…” which is there way of … Continue reading Getting better design feedback:

Text & Imagery

One of my assignments in an art class this semester is my favorite, text and imagery combination; to combine typography and imagery seamlessly. I’m going two ways with the assignment, the first one being kind of a “motivational poster” sort of route, with a three word-ish phrase. i want it clean and modern (which is hard for me because i just keep adding layers of stuff) and easy to read. I’d like to create a series of 6, but finding short phrases isn’t the easiest thing, lets shoot for 4 and see where it takes us.          … Continue reading Text & Imagery

In Progress-Livi Graduation

Not only am I graduating this year, but two of my little cute baby cousins are also. I’ll be an emotional wreck as i think of myself headed off to college as a freshman, while i put them in my shoes. They’re much cooler than i am, so i’m sure they’ll be fine. My cousin Livi asked me to make her invites. Without a ton of info/dates/stuff set in stone, i’ve begun working (and crying) on the invites a little. Livi is a lot like me, but more motivated, and a cooler dresser. And she’s ballsy-er, WAY ballsy-er. I basically … Continue reading In Progress-Livi Graduation

Insanity.

I call myself detail oriented, but this artist takes that phrase to a whole new level. Tony Bamber, a graphic artist out of Chicago IL has a Mandala series, and they are some of the coolest images i have ever seen. From the color, to the shapes, to the cropped sections, i cannot get enough of them. I can image them printed and hung on my wall. Absolutely lovely. Check out his Behance site, here.                  Continue reading Insanity.

Save the Dates:

Recently i worked with Jenna and Brian on their “Save the Dates” for their wedding this summer. Their color pallet is light pink and charcoal and they wanted a postcard style (4×6) to mail out to cut down on costs. Here are a handful i gave Jenna to choose from, and the last is the one she picked (front and back)! Thanks Jenna & Brian, and Congrats! Contact me further if you’re interested in your own save the date or wedding invite package! torflip@gmail.com :) Continue reading Save the Dates:
